I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if my webcam is broken. It does the same thing on my Desktop and my Laptop. My webcam was working perfectly fine two days ago. Then my SSD failed. So I bought a new SSD, reinstalled Windows 10.
I get going but realize that my webcam isn't working. So I go into device manager and it has it listed under Imaging Device and as 'WebCam' not LifeCam Studio or anything else. So I uninstall the drivers and check for hardware change but nothing happens.
May 22, 2017 - Microsoft LifeCam offers a clear view into your world, perfect for friendly chats or serious. Free Microsoft Windows/7 Version 3.60 Full Specs. Download the latest Microsoft LifeCam Studio device drivers (Official and Certified). Microsoft LifeCam Studio drivers updated daily. Download Now.
No prompt to download LifeCam software or drivers or anything. Just reappears as 'WebCam.' No matter how many times I unistall the generic drivers, restart my pc, uninstall and reinstall the LifeCam Studio software/drivers, or how many USB ports I put it in nothing changes and nothing works. It just keeps showing up at 'WebCam' and doing nothing. I've searched high and low but cannot find an answer. People say to 'roll back the driver because a the newer version isn't working right' but I have nothing to roll back to since it being a clean install of windows 10. I've tried updating the drivers, I tried having my computer look in a folder that I had the LifeCam drivers in but nothing works.
Every time I try to update the drivers (no matter which way I try) it just always says 'most up to date driver already installed.' I tried the webcam on my laptop (also running Windows 10) and had the same issue. So I thought 'maybe it's a windows 10 thing.' So I installed Windows 7 onto my desktop but it's having the exact same problem. Is my LifeCam Studio just magically broken after being fine three days ago?

Or am I missing something. I've read so many forum posts and visited so many links on Google but just cannot find a solution. If someone could help me that'd be fantastic. Thank you, -Rob.

After being hounded by my girlfriend Tieler,I broke down and purchased a webcam. I went through 7 different makes and models all under 30 dollars each. They were basic and easy to use with fair to poor quality video. As a goof I decided to check out the Microsoft Studio Cam. I had NO intention of laying out over 70 dollars of my hard earned cabbage for a webcam. However, this cam can shoot in the pitch dark and still produce video clear as a bell.
The others could not, despite their claims to the contrary. Additionally the preview and control window for this unit is both large and user friendly. And finally, you get some super cool effects. Which ones you ask? Buy it and you will not be disappointed. Question: Why are you still reading this review?
Buy the thing already.
